P & M Alkalinity Test Kits

“P & M” (Methyl Purple) Alkalinity Test Kits comes in 1 drop = 10, 20, 25, 50, and 100 ppm.

“P” Test Directions:

  1. Fill the mixing botle to the top of the etched mark with the water sample.
  2. Add 8 drops of Phenolphthalein Indicator.
  3. If the sample does not turn red or pink, there is no Phenolphthalein present (Continue to step 6). If the water turns pink or red continue to step 4.
  4. Add titrating solution until the sample turns colorless.
  5. Multiple the number of drops by the factor of the test for your “P” results.
  6. START “M” Test: Add 6 drops of Methyl Purple Indicator Solution and mix.
  7. If the water sample turns purple, free mineral acids are present, the “M” reading is reported as zero.
  8. If the water sample turns green, alkalinity is present and continue the test.
  9. Add the sulfuric acid titrating solution, drop by drop, swirling the vial until the sample turns purple.
  10. Multiple the drop count by the drop factor for results.
