Periotomes are the original, patented instruments designed purely for atraumatic exodontia. They are used at the start of any extraction to cut periodontal fibers and allow the root structure to separate from the bone as rapidly as possible occlusal.

Periotomes are small enough to fit into tight PDL areas and flexible enough to follow the root curve to the apex. Because of their thinness, they can prevent extensive lateral expansion of the alveolus and are ideal for use along the buccal. They have a smooth, sharpened edge throughout the whole radius to incise ( instead of tear or cut) the periodontal ligament down to the apex, and they are entirely TiNi coated to maintain their edge without the need for further sharpening.

The Set of Periotomes contains both the anterior periotome 1, which has a straight Periotome blade and a socket expander, and the periotome 2, which has 45-degree contra-angled blades for a more frontal approach of the instrument into the back.
